Cala del Ministre Beach in Javea

Cala del Ministre’ or The Ministers Creek is the rock formation, located at the far end of the Arenal, behind the hotel ‘Parador’. ‘Cala del Ministre’ earnt it name between 1957 and 1965, when the land and the chalet that was built upon it, were gifted by Francisco Franco to his Minister of Finance at the time Mariano Navarro Rubio, and thus the name ‘The Ministers Creek’!

This however is not the only piece of historical significance with the land, as hundreds of years prior it was used by the Romans as a fish salting farm, considered at the time to be an incredibly important process. Fermenting the salted fish entrails within the rocky deposits, producing ‘Garum’, a fermented fish sauce eaten by the Romans and distributed throughout their Empire!

What to do at Cala del Ministre?

Due to the creek being made completely of rough stone, it’s not the kind of beach that springs to mind when wanting a family day out, but instead, it would be more fitting to explore the creek for its historical importance. That being said, if you manage to secure a good spot, with even, flat ground, it can be incredibly calming, watching the waves roll into the rocks below.

You can also explore underwater sceneries and the sheltered marine wildlife with by snorkeling. Javea’s clear waters will allow you to enjoy a fantastic view of the underwater scenery and wildlife. There are no services available at the creek itself, however you can find everything you may need a few hundred meters away on the Arenal Beach.

Top Tip for Cala del Ministre

BRING APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR – The rough stone is not an ideal walking surface and therefore some form of protective footwear is strongly advised. Stubbed toes and twisted ankles are the perfect way to ruin your beach day.

How to get there Cale del Ministre

Cala Tango is located at the North end of the Arenal Beach. To get there from the Blanca Cars office one must… 

Head NorthEast on the ‘Avenida Arenal’ and take the 3rd exit on the roundabout joining ‘Av. de la Libertat’, when you reach the next roundabout, take the second exit and continue straight. Take the 2nd exit on the following roundabout, joining ‘Av. del Mediterraneo’ and continue straight. As the road bears to the left, enter the parking area on the right hand side, as you have arrived!

Arenal in Javea is the area located next to the main sandy beach of Javea. El Arenal is the town’s main tourist centre with many services such as restaurants of local and international cuisine, shops, bars and the Tennis Club. This district has undergone major growth in recent years. In its northern end, there was a major Roman settlement, where the Parador de Turismo de Xàbia is now located.
