La Segon Muntanyar beach, also known as ‘the Beach of the Second Mountain’ is a rough stone beach stretching over 1.5km. Due to the vast size of the beach, you’re almost guaranteed to find a satisfactory spot, even in the heights of summer. It is located southeast of the Arenal Beach and is ideal for a long day of sun bathing and relaxation.
What to do at La Segon Muntanyar
Due to the rough and rocky nature of the beach, practising your beach volleyball is pretty much out of the question! However, as the waters here are normally very calm, making it perfect for snorkelling and observing the wildlife that lives amongst the rocks. There is also a ‘view point’ located on the beach named ‘Sequia de la Noria’, which features a sizably deep canal, presumably constructed to allow the transportation of sea water to certain points amongst the salt flats.
As a result of the excess space and calm waters, ‘La Segon Muntanyar’ is a very popular spot for local fishermen, often seen casting out to sea, whilst sitting back in a deck chair and relaxing in the sunshine! Similar to ‘The Ministers Creek’, there are no services available directly from the beach itself, however the Arenal Beach is located close by and has everything one could need for a day at the beach!

Top tips for La Segon Muntanyar beach
BRING PROPER FOOTWEAR – The rough and rocky, uneven stone ground should not be taken lightly. Suitable footwear is a must when wanting to make the most of this beach. A cheap pair of rock shoes won’t only help when crossing the rocky beach, but also when entering and exiting the sea, which can at times prove difficult depending on the tide and roughness of the waters.
BRING A CHAIR – For only 5 euros from one of the local beach shops, a foldout chair is a worthwhile investment! Due to the rough nature of the terrain, it can sometimes be difficult to find a comfortable spot in which to relax, so take your own chair and make any spot, your spot!
